England child obesity rises to record in Reception

England’s National Child Measurement Programme reports 10.5% of Reception children obese in 2024/25, the highest rate outside the pandemic and up from 9.6% in 2023/24. In Year 6, 22.2% are obese, similar to 22.1% last year. Overweight rates are 13.0% in Reception and 13.9% in Year 6. Boys are more likely overweight than girls. About 1.1 million pupils were measured.
