    Fota Wildlife Park extends closure amid avian flu outbreak

    Fota Wildlife Park in Co Cork will stay closed until at least the end of November after an avian influenza outbreak. Since the outbreak began, 12 cases have been confirmed. The park euthanised 73 non-endangered birds and isolated 83 in temporary aviaries. Birds are vaccinated and currently testing negative. Operating costs average €120,000 weekly, with monthly revenue losses about €320,000.
