    McDonald urges all-island action on Lough Neagh crisis

    Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald called Lough Neagh’s recurring blue-green algae an all-island crisis after meeting NI minister Andrew Muir, who is implementing a Recovery Plan. The blooms, linked to nutrient pollution, have curtailed eel fishing and prompted bathing warnings. McDonald sought cross-border coordination and support; Muir plans tougher pollution penalties and updated nutrient and climate measures.
