    In Ruth Lawrence’s trial over the alleged murders of two men, her defence barrister told jurors that two protected witnesses are unreliable, saying they portrayed themselves as “innocents abroad,” downplayed their roles, and should not be trusted to secure a conviction. Addressing the jury, the barrister argued the witnesses “played the system” and “tried to play” them.
