    Over 55,000 Opt Out of Organ Donation

    Figures released last week show that more than 55,000 people have joined the opt-out register for organ donation, indicating they do not wish to donate organs after death under a presumed-consent system. The new organ donation legislation introducing presumed consent took effect in June, and the register records individuals’ decisions to opt out. The number reflects current registrations.
