    Report finds gaps in Irish special classes for autism

    An Irish Department of Education report evaluated special classes for autistic pupils in 30 schools (Sept 2024–Feb 2025). One school achieved an excellent standard; 50% had effective programmes; 40% had some good elements; 10% needed considerable improvement. Only 53% had a formal enrolment review; 26.6% had none. Parents highlighted long assessment waits and difficulties securing places and secondary-school transitions.
