    Man killed by airborne hydrant in California accident

    Police in California said a 24-year-old man, Humberto Hernandez, died in June 2007 in the East Bay after a Ford Escape with a burst tire veered onto a sidewalk and sheared off a fire hydrant. The hydrant became airborne and struck him in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene; his wife, walking nearby, was uninjured.
